I’ve been using SEMrush for competitor analysis, but I’m wondering if there’s a better (or cheaper) alternative for digging into competitors’ keywords, backlinks, and ads. What tools are you currently using, and what features make them stand out?
Ahrefs and Claude. Export competitor keyword ranking data from Ahrefs and add it to a Claude query asking for analysis and insights. Do this for each competitor and then for your client, the keyword and content gap analysis is also a great report. From then, every recommendation will be through the lens of gaining competitive advantage.
One tool I’ve been using lately is Ahrefs. It’s fantastic for keyword research and backlink analysis, and I’ve found their ‘Content Gap’ tool particularly useful for spotting opportunities where competitors rank but I don’t. Their interface is super user-friendly, and the backlink data tends to be very comprehensive. It’s not exactly cheaper than SEMrush, but it’s worth considering if you want a slightly different angle on competitor insights.
Looks like SEMrush and Ahrefs are still king for SEO, but very expensive. Ahrefs recently dropped a limited plan for smaller teams though, which is good value. Would love to hear if you have other good options!

Do you really recommend ChatGPT? No, dude, do not.

We pay a lot of money for ChatGPT so we use it. So far it’s been good, and I have my own GPTs there. There’s nothing wrong with it if you know how to use it. Programming a GPT isn’t the most complicated thing to do and teaching the model helped significantly with SEO recommendations that have proven effective. I don’t recommend things I haven’t had success with.
This is useful. Following for more.
Fluxai.co.uk for sure.
Definitely Ahrefs for me. But if you want to check out a good one that comes with a free trial right now, Moz is also solid. I just don’t think they give as much info as Ahrefs when you’re trying to determine who is linking to your competitors.
I am really a fan of SimilarWeb tool, gives all sorts of KPIs comparisons that other tools do not have. Especially for B2B, it is a recommendation.
Maybe leverage Hootsuite and HubSpot. Thanks.
My go-to tool for competitor analysis is Ahrefs.
SEMrush + Shortimize (for social media).
