Do you think AI will ever replace a marketing specialist's work?

I saw a video in which AI was able to optimize Google Ads campaigns. Is it possible to reduce a marketing team by using AI?

AI is definitely going to replace mediocre people. If your work is average, AI is definitely coming for you because that’s what it does best.

Moreover, it’s hard to use AI effectively without a basic understanding of how things work. For instance, if I have no design knowledge, how will I know if a particular AI-generated design is good enough or effective?

In summary, I think AI is a supplement that helps us enhance what we do.

You perform split testing, like the rest of us.

In a very short time span, an AI agent will conduct the A/B testing itself and automatically adjust based on the results.

@Zion
I don’t see it happening. This approach has existed for years, like with various bandit algorithms or reinforcement learning. Still requires an analyst to be involved and likely will for the foreseeable future.

What tools do you recommend for A/B testing?

Additionally, advertisement space is sold on many websites. Users are increasingly turning to ChatGPT and its competitors for answers, which makes browsing websites for information less necessary, and as a result, the ads on those sites will become less profitable. As this trend grows, traditional search-based marketing will become less relevant, with most digital marketing shifting to social media, requiring less human management.

@Reese
But eventually…

I don’t believe AI is close to fully replacing marketing specialists. However, I think many marketing specialists will be replaced by those who leverage AI to work faster, smarter, and achieve better results.

If AI becomes advanced enough to replace marketing specialists, it could also replace all IT jobs, which is concerning. I still believe that AI tools will primarily help us produce things more efficiently.

Many of my clients understand Google Ads, but they lack the time to think about it. They don’t want to create content, post, or design PPC ads. They have more critical tasks to manage.

For now, we’re safe, at least for some time. :sweat_smile:

P.S. I do think smaller teams will benefit from AI, maintaining productivity equivalent to before.

@Remy
All IT jobs too?

I don’t agree; I believe marketing will be affected sooner (especially digital) than fields like system engineering or other specialized IT areas.

Most PPC already heavily relies on AI (Facebook/Google), which is not the case with general programming. I only know of ChatGPT and GitHub Copilot being used occasionally, mostly for minor assistance. PPC wouldn’t function properly without AI.

@Remy
ChatGPT can replace software engineers and other critical roles only when clients know what they want. Most clients who need developers/engineers don’t understand what needs to be done. Even if AI can help, you still need IT professionals for backend changes, machine learning support, etc.

The marketing specialist’s role includes managing Google Ads, while optimization is just a small part of their responsibilities, typically done once a month.

The optimization is only about once a month.

I strongly disagree. That might apply to a small $500-1000 campaign with few clicks.

For a $100k/month plan, optimization should happen much more frequently than once a month.

People still don’t realize that AI could ultimately replace any job.

I’m just waiting for AI to build my house…

AI would reduce workloads, enabling companies to hire fewer workers or pay for fewer hours.

People think this will make their jobs easier and cheaper, but they’re just turkeys voting for Christmas. They’re the ones who will end up being discarded.

Thanks, ChatGPT. Are you a bit biased?
